Why do I need pool freeze guard protection?

Pool pumps must run at 36 degrees and lower per manufacturers specifications. Automatic freeze guard protection takes care of all this for you. Freeze guards are set at 36 degrees which will turn your main circulating pump on and won't turn off until the temperature rises back above 36 degrees. If water freezes in pool pipes it does not allow water flow while the motor and pump are running, which will burn up the motor while damaging the pump and pipes. Pipes can be damaged or break with ice build up, which result in major and unnecessary repairs.
